Appliance New Year’s Resolutions

We all get busy and days start to go by like hours. Just taking a moment to look at your appliances and assess their overall condition will help you notice things that might need some attention and can prevent larger repairs in future.

Dishwasher: Remove and clean debris screen (filter in the bottom of the dispenser).

Dishwasher: Run a dishwasher cleaner for the unit, i.e. lemi-shine or something similar.

Dishwasher: Wipe around the door gasket and clean off any spells or debris so door seals properly.

Refrigerator. Check and replace water filter, if necessary.

Refrigerator. Blow out the condenser coils, or vacuum. Blowing out works better and causes less damage than brushes.

Refrigerator. Clean around door gasket to remove any stickiness and promote a good door seal.

Stove. Wipe around the door and remove the drawer at the bottom and clean under the drawer.

Stove. Remove the knobs and use a mild soap and sponge to clean off any built-up debris. (don't short out any switches behind the knob by using too much moisture)

Stove. Scrape out any large spills inside the oven and use an oven cleaner or run the self clean cycle.(I am not a fan of most self clean cycle as I have found that service calls occur shortly after this but some new ovens don’t work well with oven cleaners)

Disposal: To remove smells, fill the unit with ice and some dish detergent and run it with no water for a minute. After it’s done , turn on the water and flush the unit out.

Washer: Run the washer with hot water and a 1/4 cup of bleach to disinfect it. Don’t use liquid fabric softener.

Washer. Inspect the fill hoses for leaks or damage from age.

Dryer: Check the lint screen for softener build up and clean with hot water and dish soap as needed. Check for good air flow at the outside vent.

Dryer. Make sure the vent is not kinked or broken behind the dryer.

Wishing you a beautiful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
