How to Prepare for Appliance Service

Appliance issues seem to happen at the most inconvenient times. Knowing what to do when things go wrong and how to prepare for the arrival of your trusted appliance technician can speed up diagnosing the problem and get things fixed as quickly as possible.

In this blog post, we'll guide you through the essential steps to take when faced with an appliance issue and how to prepare for your technician’s arrival.

What to do Immediately:

  1. Safety First:

    • Ensure everyone in your household is safe and away from the affected appliance.

    • If there's a risk of electrical shock, it is smoking or there is a burning smell, turn off the power to the appliance at the circuit breaker.

  2. Isolate the Appliance:

    • If possible, disconnect the malfunctioning appliance from its power source or turn off the gas supply.

    • For water-related issues, shut off the water supply to the appliance to prevent further leakage.

  3. Assess the Damage:

    • Identify the nature of the problem and make a note of any visible damage or unusual sounds.

    • If possible, capture the malfunction with your phone’s video recorder.

  4. Document the Model and Serial Number of the Appliance:

    • Find the appliance's model and serial number, which are usually located on a label or plate.

    • Take a picture of the model plate. This documentation can be useful for the appliance repair professionals in diagnosing the issue more efficiently..

    • This can also help us pre-order parts and get you up and running in one trip instead of two.

  5. Check for User-Friendly Solutions:

    • Consult the appliance's user manual for troubleshooting tips and potential solutions that you can safely implement. We don’t mind educating our customers, but reading your manual first can save you a diagnostic/trip charge to send a technician to your home.

    • Is it plugged in? Is the breaker tripped? Is the water connection in the “on” position? Is your fridge overloaded with something preventing the door from closing?

  6. Contact Cavalry Appliance Service:

    • You can reach us Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm at 252-772-1264 or visit www.cavalryappliance.com and click the “Schedule a Service Call” button to fill out a form that goes to our email.

    • We will call you back during the next business day to answer your questions and get you scheduled.

    • You can also text Cavalry Appliance at 252-772-1264 and we can text or call you back the next business day.

What to Do Before the Pros Arrive:

  1. Prepare Questions for the Professionals:

    • Jot down any questions you may have for the repair technicians regarding the issue, estimated repair time, and potential costs.

  2. Clear the Area:

    • Create a clear and accessible path for the repair professionals to reach the affected appliance easily.

    • Remove any obstacles or items that might hinder the repair process.

    • For refrigerators, be sure the appliance has been plugged in for at least 24 hours, unless instructed otherwise by the technician.

  3. Secure Pets:

    • If you have pets, secure them in a safe area away from the repair site to ensure their safety and prevent any interference with the technicians.

    • We love animals, but they are often protective (as they should be) of your home and family members and its’ safest for everyone when they are secured in a different area of your home.

4. Be sure there is an Adult Home:

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to service appliances if the only person home is under the age of 18.

  • Please ensure that a responsible adult is available to greet the technician and pay for services at the time of the diagnosis or repair.

  • We accept cash, check or credit card and can send the payment portal directly to your phone for secure payment.

5. Additional Appliance Diagnostic Fees are Half Off!

  • If you have any other appliance issues while we are already in your home, let us know. The diagnostic fee is 50% of the usual fee for that appliance.

  • We can also take care of maintenance services for additional appliances, like cleaning your refrigerator coils, changing a water filter on your fridge (just let us know ahead of time so we can order the right filter) or cleaning your dryer vent.

To sum it up, in an appliance repair emergency, staying level-headed and taking swift, decisive action can be crucial. By following these checklists, you'll not only ensure the safety of your household but also contribute to a smoother and more efficient repair process once the professionals arrive. Remember, Cavalry Appliance Service is just a call away and we’re ready to bring our expertise to resolve your appliance issues and get your home back to normal.

Cheers,

The Seeleys
